Domodedovo Airport and Royal Jordanian Showcased Jordan’s Tourism Potential to Media

Domodedovo International Airport and Royal Jordanian Airlines held a joint press tour for Russian media outlets. Journalists visited Jordan, where representatives of the aviation and tourism industries spoke about the development of air services and new travel opportunities for tourists from both countries.

Currently, around 30,000 Russians visit the Kingdom each year — these are the figures provided by the Embassy of the Russian Federation. According to Gleb Desyatnikov, the Russian Ambassador to Jordan, by 2028 their number may increase to 100,000 people. “Tourists can come to Aqaba for a beach holiday, and make day trips to Petra and Wadi Rum from there,” he noted.

One of the key events of the program was a meeting at the headquarters of Royal Jordanian in Amman. The airline’s commercial director, Karim Makhlouf, spoke about plans to expand the route network and develop activities in the Russian market over the next two years. “Starting in November of this year, Royal Jordanian will launch a new flight from Moscow to Aqaba from Domodedovo International Airport,” he noted.

Flights on the new route will be operated twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. The flight program will complement the existing Royal Jordanian flight from Moscow to Amman, which operates on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The route is served by Airbus A320neo aircraft in a two‑class configuration, the flight time is about 4.5 hours. The average age of the airline’s fleet is 3.5 years.

Royal Jordanian intends to expand its digital services for the Russian market. In mid‑2027, as part of the second stage of implementing the ExploRJordan travel platform, the airline plans to integrate Yandex.Pay as a payment method for flight tickets and launch a Russian‑language version of the service. Royal Jordanian will also continue to cooperate with tour operators, offering special fares for flights included in travel packages.

The prospects for further growth in tourist traffic were discussed during a meeting with Emad Naim Hijazin, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Jordan. Special attention was paid to the development of pilgrimage tourism between the countries ahead of the 2000th anniversary of the Baptism of the Lord. According to the minister, by 2030, about a million pilgrims will visit the holy sites of Jordan.

During the press tour, representatives of Russian media visited Amman, the Dead Sea coast, Petra, Wadi Rum, and Aqaba.
