Domodedovo is Ready to Operate in Emergency Situations
Domodedovo International Airport conducted a comprehensive exercise to practice actions in the event of a man‑made emergency. The event was attended by the emergency rescue team, staff from the airport organizations, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Rospotrebnadzor, Domodedovo Customs, the border service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and representatives of Russian and foreign airlines.
The main goal of the exercise was to check the readiness of the airport staff to respond promptly to non‑standard situations and to improve the practical skills of employees from various agencies in carrying out emergency rescue and evacuation operations.
At the first stage, the consequences of a training aviation incident were eliminated on the airport apron under the supervision of the fire and emergency rescue service.
According to the exercise scenario, at 10:50, the airport tower controller received a report about an aircraft approaching for landing with a faulty landing gear strut. The flight operations manager of the Domodedovo Air Traffic Control Center, a branch of the State Corporation for Air Traffic Organization, issued a training “Alarm” signal.
The rescue and emergency teams of the airport’s comprehensive shift moved from their permanent locations to the assembly point in the shortest possible time. During the exercise, the speed at which the units arrived in the designated area, as well as the staffing and equipment of the teams, were checked. The work was overseen by the emergency response team leader.
The airport services jointly practiced a set of rescue and evacuation measures using a mock‑up of an aircraft, as well as actions to eliminate the consequences of a simulated incident.
The second stage of the exercise took place in the airport terminal. Representatives of airlines and government agencies familiarized themselves with the algorithms for interaction between Domodedovo services in the event of an emergency in the passenger terminal. Special attention was paid to organizing work with passengers’ relatives and interacting with representatives of the media. The participants got acquainted with the work of the airport’s departments, asked questions of interest, and received information about the procedure for interaction between services in the event of abnormal situations.
Conducting comprehensive exercises allows Domodedovo Airport to improve the mechanisms of interdepartmental interaction, maintain a high level of staff readiness, and practice practical actions in dealing with abnormal situations.
