MOSCOW DOMODEDOVO AIRPORT IS FULLY READY FOR THE AUTUMN/WINTER PERIOD
The complex of preparations for work during the autumn/winter period ended with an inspection of specialised equipment and special-purpose vehicles, which once again confirmed technical serviceability and robustness of all machines and mechanisms that are planned to be operated in the cold season.
Ground handling of aircraft in the upcoming autumn-winter period is planned to be performed using more than 150 units of automotive and special-purpose equipment and over 2,000 vehicles for delivering luggage and cargo to aircraft.
A distinctive feature of aircraft handling in conditions of low temperatures is de-icing and anti-icing procedure necessary to ensure safe flights. A fleet of 17 deicers has been prepared at Domodedovo Airport for treatment of aircraft with de-icing liquids, including the highest reaching ‘Elephant Beta-15 DeIcer’ machines, with extended telescopic booms rising to a height of 15 meters, which makes it possible to reach aircraft surfaces at a height of 23 meters. This is sufficient to treat the keel of an Airbus A380 aircraft, the largest passenger liner in the world, which Domodedovo Airport serves on a regular basis.
