Passport control

Information on visa-free
or simplified entry to different countries:
Consular Information Portal

You can find rules of crossing the border of the Russian Federation
on the official website of the Border Guard Service of the Russian Federation.

To cross the national border you need valid documents allowing entry to the Russian Federation or departure from the Russian Federation

Staff at the passport control will check the legality of your stay in the Russian Federation, but not whether you have right of entry to your destination country. It is the carrier's responsibility to check whether the passenger holds a visa or other entry permit to the destination country.

CITIZENS OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

Documents that Russian citizens are required to hold

Basic identity documents of a citizen of the Russian Federation allowing departure from the Russian Federation and entry to the Russian Federation:

  • passport (foreign travel passport) of the Russian Federation;
  • diplomatic passport;
  • service passport;
  • seaman's passport (seaman's identity card).

Documents that minor Russian citizens are required to hold

Minor younger than 18 years of age may travel from Russia, if accompanied by a parent, adoptive parent, guardian, or custodian, on either his or her own passport (foreign travel passport) or his/her parent's passport (foreign travel passport), where appropriate endorsement has been made by an authorized agency.

We recommend that you always carry your child's birth certificate!

If the minor is leaving Russia for a period exceeding 3 months,
consent to travel must be certified by the guardianship authority.

FOREIGN CITIZENS

Documents that foreign citizens are required to hold

Foreign citizens and stateless persons may travel to and from the Russian Federation, if they hold a Russian visa, on valid ID documents recognized by the Russian Federation. When entering the Russian Federation, a foreign citizen must fill out a migration card, which must be kept during the entire stay in the Russian Federation and returned at departure.

Registration rules for foreign citizens and stateless persons are established by the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation.

Full information can be obtained from the consular offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Russian Embassy in your country.

Visa information for foreign citizens

Visa requirements when crossing the Russian border depend on the treaties between the Government of the Russian Federation and other states.

Procedures of applying for and extending Russian visa can be found on the website of the Migration Service of the Russian Federation.

Passengers traveling on a tourist visa are required to have booking confirmation from their hotel.

All foreign citizens staying in the Russian Federation longer than 3 days must register with the Ministry of Interior. If you are staying at the hotel, the hotel can complete the registration procedure for you. Please confirm this in advance.

Crossing the national border of the Russian Federation will be refused to:

  • foreign citizens and stateless persons not allowed entry in accordance with the Russian legislation;
  • person who were prohibited from leaving Russia in the manner established by the legislation of the Russian Federation.

Exit visa

If their exit visa has not yet been issued by the consular office of the Russian Federation, foreign citizens are required to obtain it no later than 2 days before departure in a passport and visa office of the Ministry of Interior.

Transfer from Belarus

Foreign citizens traveling on a connecting flight from Belarus to another country and/or from another country to Belarus need a transit visa to the Russian Federation. Russian transit visa can be obtained upon presentation of the respective tickets and visa to the destination country:
